What is the CJ CUP Byron Nelson?

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is a golf tournament held annually in Texas on the PGA Tour. It is currently hosted by TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, northeast of Dallas. The tournament is named after golfer Byron Nelson and is one of the leading fundraisers for charity on the PGA Tour.

The tournament was first played in 1944 and has been held at various courses in Dallas throughout its history. In 1968, the event was renamed the Byron Nelson Golf Classic and its title has continuously included Nelson’s name. The tournament has been played at TPC Craig Ranch since 2021.

Some of the all-time CJ CUP Byron Nelson highlights include:

• 1976: Mark Hayes becomes the first wire-to-wire winner of the Nelson.
• 2005: Tiger Woods’ record streak of 142 cuts made came to an end at this tournament.
• 2010: At age 16, Jordan Spieth became the youngest player to play in the tournament.
• 2018: Aaron Wise sets the tournament record score.

Seven players have won the tournament more than once, including Tom Watson (4 wins), Sam Snead (3 wins), and Jack Nicklaus (2 wins).
