Florida retail sports betting set to return without FSU in CFB

Depending on your allegiances, this day is devastating for a large amount fans throughout the Sunshine State. Florida retail sports betting is set to return, but fans will not be able to wager on Florida State winning a national championship in football when it does.

Florida State left out of the CFB

The College Football Playoff Committee recently unveiled the four teams set to contend for the national championship this season. Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama secured their spots, pushing the undefeated 13-0 Florida State Seminoles to No. 5, leaving them on the outside looking in at the playoffs.

Despite their flawless record, the Seminoles sit at 11th in the College Football Power Index (CFPI), with Michigan leading at No. 1 and Alabama at No. 5. Washington ranks 13th in the CFPI, yet the committee couldn’t ignore the Pac-12 championship, particularly with Heisman Trophy candidate Michael Penix Jr.

Florida retail sports betting set to return

For disappointed Noles fans, there’s a more uplifting development in the state today. Retail sports betting in Florida is scheduled to resume on Thursday, December 7, at the Seminole Classic Casino and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, along with the the Seminole Casino in Coconut Creek. Then in-person sports gambling will kick off on Friday, Dec 8, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa. Subsequently, Dec. 11 marks the rollout at Seminole Casino in Immokalee and Seminole Brighton Casino. While other pari-mutuel spots in Florida may eventually offer sports betting, a substantial portion of the proceeds will go to the Seminole Tribe.

Hard Rock Bet available online

Online sports betting in Florida has been active since November 7, but with limited access.The Hard Rock Bet sportsbook app is available for existing customers in Florida. Although access has been granted on the app, it does only people who used the app when it first launched in the state in 2021 and existing members of the Unity by Hard Rock loyalty program can use the app.
